Modal Auxiliary

Modal auxiliary adalah kata kerja bantu yang terletak sebelum kata kerja utama dan memiliki arti tambahan.

Reqirement:

ü  Must use V1 after modal

ü  Forbidden to use “Ving, V2, V3 “ after modal

ü  Forbidden if there are 2 main modal in a sentence

1.      Main modal  adalah kata bantu utama.

·         Can , it is used for asking about ability, and permission. Can is used in present and future time. For example : he can swim ( ability ), can I borrow your book ? (permission)

·         Could is used in past time, and the verb will not change although the tense changes. It can be used for asking about more polite request or permission. For example :Jhonny could invite me 2 days ago, could I go with you ?

·         May. It is used in present time and ask about request or possibility.

Example : May I borrow your pen ?, she may be late, may I get much money?, may I get success.

·         Might. It is used in past time. Example : she might come here.

·         Must. Digunakan menanyakan keharusan. It is used for all types of tenses. Example : must I accompany tomorrow ?, I must speak Spanish.

·         Would/should. It is used in past future. Example : you should advise me.

2.      Similiar Modal adalah kata bantu yang di sederhanakan mencari persamaan dari kata bantu utama tanpa merubah arti.

·         Can/ could = be able to. Example : they are able to buy new apartement.

·         May/might = be allowed to. Example : she is allowed to go home.

·         Will = be going to. Example : he is going to call me.

·         Must = have to, has to, had to. Example : she has to visit me.

3.      Mixed modal.

MM + MM =  can not be mixed modal

MM + SM =MM

SM + SM = MM

Example : who must be able to love you ?, who will be able to go home?
